Bio

 

New York based actress, director and producer,  Jean Tafler, has spent much of her career traveling the United States. The range and scope of the roles she has played in contemporary plays, new works, musicals, classical theatre and Shakespeare matches the geographical variety of venues in which she has performed. (The only states she has not traveled to so far are Alaska and Hawaii!)

Counted among her many regional credits are more than 30 Shakespearean productions. She has appeared as Rosalind in As You Like It, Kate in The Taming of The Shrew, Goneril in King Lear, and as Lady Macbeth.

A trained, lyric soprano and versatile musical performer, Jean has played the title role in the musical adaptation of Jane Eyre, Cinderella in Into the Woods, Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors and Lilli Vanessi in Kiss Me Kate.

Her New York Credits include Off-Broadway productions at Soho Rep., The Lucille Lortel, Town Hall, The York Theatre, The Sheen Center, Lamb’s Theatre and  as well as numerous Off-Off Broadway Productions. She has also worked as an actor and director in several productions with the award winning Theaterworks/USA. She directed The Merry Wives of Windsor for the Stella Adler Studio. 

Her film work includes the cult horror classic The Deadly Spawn, as well as The Mind’s EyeBullets Over Broadway, and Whiskey School.

Jean is a founding member and Managing Director of  Fat Knight Theatre  in NYC, www.fatknighttheatre.org. With Fat Knight, Jean produced the award winning ChipandGus at  The NY International Fringe Festival , Fringe Encore Series, Centenary Stage, Proctors Theater, and Bridge Street Theatre. She also served as producer for  The Summoning at the SheNYC Summer Theater Festival in July of 2017. At SheNYC  The Summoning  won Best Production, Best Direction (Emily Lyon) , and Best Actor (Colleen Litchfield). She co-produced Plague Doctor at Soho Playhouse and at SheNYC in 2021 (which again won Best Production at SheNYC). www.SheNYCarts.org
